“Don’t be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered… lead by example with hope, Never fear.” – Michelle Obama
It’s a new year with new opportunities, goals, and adventures! I hate to seem basic, but every year, I set New Years’ Resolutions. Some have reigned successful and others not so much! This year, my number one resolution is to stay continuously focused on my goals. I’ve always been one to plan and set goals for myself, but I find that are easily hindered by distractions and obstacles that come my way. There’s absolutely no telling of what’s to come in the next few months and years in our country and world, but we simply cannot let what is out of our control break our stride. This year, we must keep looking forwards towards the finish line!
I’ve always found it difficult to focus on my ultimate goal because A) obstacles have thrown me off track, and B) I find something new to add to my list of “things to accomplish”. However, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with pursuing different avenues in life – in fact, I highly encourage it! What fun is life if you’re constantly doing the same thing and not switching it up?
For instance, in college, I was involved in dance, SGA, and a few other on-campus organizations. On top of that, I was working towards my degree, juggling two jobs, trying to enjoy a fun college life, starting my fashion blog, and striving towards moving to NYC after graduation. These would often overlap, and I was left with the conflict choosing between one or the other. Nonetheless, my desire to hold different positions and roles is what makes me so perfect for NYC. This city is full of individuals that are constantly perusing different roles because A) the cost of living is so expensive that some have no choice but to work in multiple positions, or B) there’s so much opportunity in virtually every line of work.
My advice, pursue everything you love because life is short, and we should make the most of every opportunity that comes our way. However, we shouldn’t let one position distract from another. If we desire to wear these different hats, we must be prepared to sacrifice some time, energy, and sleep! That’s why my New Years’ Resolution is to try new, fun things but remain focused and develop a clear understanding of what I want out of life! I encourage you to make a list of everything you want to accomplish while continuously adding to that list throughout your life. However, don’t erase the older ventures while pursuing the newly set ones!
Now, on to the outfit! The majority of this ensemble was ordered from the lovely Zaful. This online shop carries fresh, on-trend fashion for amazing prices. Check out my recent blog post, Zaful Wishlist, to learn more about the site! I am in love with the vintage vibe of this Slash Neck Bowknot Pencil Dress. I feel like a giant Tiffany’s box! Plus, baby-blue is such a hot color for 2017, and I’m beyond excited to carry it into my spring outfits. Another retro piece that I’m rocking is this Cassette Shaped Bag. These two items certainly my give my outfit a cool mixture of the 60s and 90s! I threw on these Chanel-inspired tweed pumps by Jessica Simpson and this A-line coat by Betsey Johnson to pull together the black trim of the dress.
