With the month of August quickly approaching, I realized there’s so many fun events I need to experience this summer. Spending my first full year in New York City, I realized that we only really have three to four months of hot weather, where as back in Alabama, it was practically warm year around. Therefore, hot-weather seasons are more valued since there are so few. So, I am determined to spend this next month hitting up some of the most fabulous stops New York City has to offer.
Broadway in Bryant Park, Midtown, Now-August 10th
From Chicago to Avenue Q, Broadway in Bryant Park is perfect whether you’re a Broadway junkie (like me!) or simply in need of quality entertainment during the day. You can grab a bite from one of the many kiosk, or after the show, you can enjoy a late lunch at Bryant Park Grill or coffee at Bryant Park Cafe.
Battle of the Burgers, Hudson River, August 10th
Hosted by the popular Time Out New York event publication, only the best of the best burger restaurants can be tasted at the event. The burger brands will be featured in the August 9th issue of Time Out, so you don’t want to miss experiencing these amazing burgers. I’m currently praying that they all have veggie burgers #VegetarianProbz
Jazz Age Lawn Party, Governor’s Island, August 26th and August 27th
Throw on your fabulous fringe dress, t-strap heels, and sparkling headband for a step in time. Tickets range from $45 to $5000, and features jazz and swing tribute bands such as Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra, Queen Esther, and The Dreamland Follies. The event also hosts tons of activities like vintage art & clothing vendors and dance classes to learn the hottest steps of the era.
Afropunk, Barry Park, August 26th-27th
Interested in more up-to-date music, Afropunk features today’s hottest R&B artist such as Gary Clark Jr., Raphael Saadiq, Willow Smith, and Macy Gray as well as a Battle of the Bands competition. Event goers can also experience the tons of unique art vendor, delicious eats, and “After Dark” after parties at surrounding Brooklyn venues.
Free Outdoor Movies, Various Locations, Now-August 29th
Grab some snacks and drinks and meet-up with your best girl friends or cuddle with you beau on a crisp summer night. Find the full movie schedule here.
Electric Zoo, Randall’s Island, September 1st-3rd
Taking place Labor Day Weekend, this end-of-summer music festival will be featuring Zedd, Dead Mau5, Excision, Sasha & John Diggweed, and numerous top electric acts. This year’s theme is “The 6th Borough”, a homage and celebration to New York City.
Smorgasburg, Williamsburg (Saturdays) and Prospect Park (Sundays), Now-October
The perfect cheat-meal destination, this open-air food market is the largest in America. It carries a range of 100 food venders as classic as burgers and juices as unusual as spaghetti donut and churro ice cream sandwiches. There is definitely something delicious for everyone!
Dream Downtown Rooftop, Chelsea, All-Year Long
Whether it’s to watch the after-office sunset or take a dip in the rooftop pool, PHD (Penthouse at the Dream) is the place to be for the best NYC summertime scene.
